* Understanding the Need
Evidence suggests that those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are less likely to be involved in international development activity. We need to know more about the reasons for this, and the barriers that exist.
Our early research research programme will look at how NGO's monitor the diversity of their employees, the composition of university international development courses, what can be done to promote opportunities in international development for non-graduates and how existing volunteering and travel opportunities can be made more accessible.
* Facilitate Information and Learning Opportunities
Building on trial events in 2022-23, we plan to work with key partners to stage further 'taster' events. These will be supplemented by materials to address a shortage of careers advice in the area. We'd also like to start an annual summer school for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and a mentoring programme.
